Water Based Adventure Activities
At Mountain Water Expeditions we offer a diverse range of water based activities where everyone can get involved in the outdoors.
– Gorge Walking
This is a deservedly popular choice of activity with many of our users, in particular the short expeditions that can be made from the craft; with the canoes being used to transport equipment as well as people. Originating from North America, canoes are large open craft which can seat one, two or three people and are manoeuvred by participants using a single bladed paddle.
The great benefit of canoeing, particularly if rafted up in a catamaran style, is that it builds up water confidence. It can be a much more relaxing and altogether far more social way of getting out onto the water for groups. Canoeing also allows people to push themselves within a team. Once on the water one can have fun playing games, learn about the coastal environment, discover fossils; or even learn how to sail their craft. All age groups can take part in canoeing throughout the year.
Canoeing ideally lends itself to undertaking a journey, carrying all that is needed in the boat; the longer trips certainly help to contribute to the development of teamwork, communication and perseverance. It also allows for even greater reflective exploration of the water environment.
It must be re-iterated that if required, canoes can be rafted up to create a very stable learning platform, allowing participants of any ability to gain a sense of achievement by contributing to the team effort.
Kayaking uses boats originally designed by Eskimos for travelling on the sea. This in mind the boat is covered except for a hole around the waist. Our kayaks allow beginners to have some fun, learning skills on a lake and then maybe trying them out on a river in further sessions.
Our kayaks (small single person boats with a double ended paddle) allow you to have some fun while learning new skills and enjoying a journey on a lake. We can also run BCU Star Tests and White Water Safety and Rescue courses for groups.
Coasteering is a great way to explore Anglesey’s west coast – scrambling and swimming around the spectacular cliffs close to the water’s edge, we climb from bay to bay, scrambling over boulders and gullies. We often swim past harder sections, to simply enjoy being in the water. Add the sea caves and cliff jumps and you’ve got a fantastic outdoor adventure!
This is a great activity for all ages and abilities and every summer Mountain Water Expeditions introduce many adventurous (and not so adventurous) people to the excitement of this excellent activity. We can make the session as exciting or accessible as you like – it’s a great experience for a mixed-ability group. Action-packed with climbing, jumping and swimming, it’s a great team activity.
We’ll kit you out with full wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets – you’ll just need swimming costume, an old pair of trainers and warm clothing to wear after the activity session.
Our coasteering venues are all on the west coast of Anglesey . So don’t miss out – contact us today to book a great coasteering adventure!
